Free on board (FOB)

A term used to specify the point at which ownership of goods is transferred from a seller to a buyer, which is an important distinction when freight is damaged or destroyed in transit to the buyer. FOB shipping point, also known as FOB origin, indicates that ownership of goods is transferred to the buyer when they leave the supplier’s shipping point. Conversely, FOB destination point means ownership is transferred to the buyer at the buyer’s loading dock.
