Flatbed

A trailer with a flat level bed and no fixed sides or roof, normally 48 or 53 feet in length, aside from 20- or 40-foot hotshot flatbed trailers. Flatbeds, also classified as open-deck trailers, include drop-deck trailers. Some have gates that convert the flatbed to a form of dump trailer for bulk products, like scrap metal, when added to the side. Flatbed drivers are responsible for securing freight to their trailers, which often must be tarped.
