Technology is moving the world forward in ways that were once never imaginable. Across all industries, the supply chain and transportation innovations constantly improve, and the trucking industry is included.
The Uber Freight Shipper platform connects businesses to shippers and carriers, in a few easy steps– right from their app. Let’s explore Uber Freight's on-demand freight transportation infrastructure so you can determine if it’s the right fit for your shipping needs.
How Does Shipping Uber Freight Shipping Work?
Uber Freight was developed in 2017 with the main goal to simplify the logistics and shipping process for everyone – small businesses and large corporations alike!
Shippers simply create an account, enter the package and delivery information and receive an immediate quote. Once the quoted rate is accepted, all you have to do is book the shipment and a carrier is dispatched for pick up.
In the app, you can easily track the progress of your shipment, or receive notifications about delivery milestones.
Shipper vs Carrier
There are two different options when setting up an Uber Freight account – shipper or carrier. If you are looking to ship cargo from one location to the next, you would select the shipper account.
For owner-operators and truck drivers looking to haul loads for clients, you would create a carrier account.
Shipper Features
Uber Freight offers shippers peace of mind with the following features and services:
- Instant quotes
- Real-time tracking
- 24/7 access to carriers and customer service
- Nationwide network
- Support tools to see past, present, and future shipments
How Are Uber Freight Shipments Protected?
Your Uber Freight carrier will have at least $100,000 of liability insurance to cover your cargo. In the event of cargo loss or damage, the carrier will be liable and Uber Freight’s claims team will help you throughout the process.
What Support Does Uber Freight Provide for Shippers?
Suitable to the ‘round the clock’ supply chain and transportation industry, Uber Freight offers 24/7 on-demand support throughout any step of the shipping process. From set up to the day-to-day management, Uber Freight is available to address your needs any time of the day or night.
Does Uber Freight Screen Carriers?
One of the main perks of a Uber Freight Shipper is ensuring carriers are consistent with industry standards. Utilizing third-party tools like SaferWatch, Uber Freight screens their carriers by using information from FMCSA such as operating authority, safety rating, and insurance information.
Performance Factors of Uber Freight Shipping
When you’re looking for a company to trust with your shipping needs, you’ll want to ensure that they have the following:
- Coverage in case of loss
- Instant and accurate quotes
- Competitive pricing
- Real-time tracking
The good news is, Uber Freight offers all of those factors and more! Their fully transparent platform allows you to keep your eyes on your shipments from start to finish.
How Has Uber Freight Shipping Improved?
Like all new technology, it’s not immediately known what complaints will arise until you receive feedback. Uber Freight noticed there was a missed opportunity for LTL. In July 2021, Uber Freight introduced a new option for shippers who need less-than-truckload services. This improvement allows Uber Freight to be a one-stop shop when it comes to a solution for shippers.
Because Uber Freight is continually improving, there’s no doubt that future improvements for shippers will be coming soon. They want to ensure that all parties experience a seamless shipping process from the first to the last mile.
Shipper Requirements
If you have cargo that you need to transport from one destination to another and you’re considering utilizing Uber Freight, you’ll need to meet the following:
- Contiguous United States only
- Nothing shipped that is dangerous or requires special transport services
- Fits into one of the following
- 53’ dry or refrigerated full truckload
- LTL
- Flatbeds
- Parcels
If you fit the bill above, Uber Freight could be the ideal option for you! There are other freight services, like reliable car transportation, that are not yet available on Uber Freight.
Is Uber Freight Shipping Profitable?
Uber Freight can help you streamline your business and have your entire shipping operation at your fingertips. The transparent pricing allows you to know exactly what is coming in and out of your facilities which can help you save money. However, Uber Freight might not be the best option if your business ships small packages.

I am going on 3 hours ,waiting for an express code to pay lumper and nobody cares. my company, i am loosing money with this load. They have employees from all over the world who barely speaks english. All they know is “I am sorry for the waiting” the company is closing and i am not empty.
We hauled load for Uber 30 days ago and POD was approved 29 days ago . They were supposed to pay within 7 days . POD clean / no issues . They have this entire file the payment on hold . And they cannot see or even tell you why it was on hold . Called 20 times , made 20 request for payment g release and nothing. Don’t even bother with payment representive. They’re useless . Think they’re going out of business . Be careful
Uber Freight pays less than anyone in the industry when they pay. Due to financial difficulties they don’t pay their delinquent freight bills.
I cannot fathom the stupidity of the people they’ve hired to assist with shipping freight. They don’t read and most of the employees seem to have no understanding of how logistics even works. Convinced they will not be around long!
Was denied 7.5 hours of detention because a piece of paper was not submitted within 24 hours. There was contact with support but that doesn’t matter. Submit that paperwork withing 24 hours or you get nothing. No supervisors or managers to speak with. Only a call center located who knows where with people who you have to constantly ask to repeat what they are saying. This is not the way to run a company. When you cannot bend, you will fall.
Easy and convenient to use
Great job while working with this company.
