Stoneridge EZ-ELD Review

Now that electronic logging devices (ELD) are mandatory in commercial vehicles, many trucking companies are continuing to refine the ways that they integrate this technology into their fleets.

In this review, we’ll examine many of the essential features and benefits of the Stoneridge EZ-ELD and show how it’s earned the reputation for being one of the best ELD devices on the market.

How Does the Stoneridge EZ-ELD Work?

Today’s ELDs are designed to integrate into the engine of a commercial vehicle, allowing for precise reporting of record of duty status (RODS) data. The Stoneridge ELD is among the devices on the FMSCA ELD approved list, and it offers a wide array of recording features.

The Stoneridge EZ-ELD offers easy installation, compatible with the OBD-II ports as well as the 6-pin and 9-pin ports of today’s commercial vehicles. The device is easy to use and relies on a mobile app.

Each device is compatible with unlimited drivers, making it one of the best ELD devices for mid-to large-size commercial fleets. The device itself offers six months of data storage. The ELD is also supported by 24-hour customer service.

Stoneridge EZ-ELD FAQs

The Stoneridge EZ-ELD is an attractive option for those who are looking for an affordable fleet solution, but it has also raised questions, which we’ll answer below.

What do you need to know about Stoneridge EZ ELD?

Now that ELDs are mandated, the simplicity of the EZ ELD makes it an affordable choice for a variety of fleets, ensuring the safety of a vehicle’s driver while also minimizing the risk of an HOS violation.

How much data does EZ-ELD use?

If the device is used continually in a single truck, it will use roughly 60 MB of data per month. However, this estimate is only for logging hours of service and basic vehicle tracking features.

Document captures and data transfers will use additional data, the amount of which depends on the size of the documents and the frequency with which they are transmitted.

Why does the EZ-ELD app automatically log my user out?

If a user is out of the device’s Bluetooth range for over 10 minutes, the app disconnects automatically in order to save battery and avoid errors. The user will need to log back in once they return to the vehicle.

What can I do if my Android or Apple app does not automatically update?

The apps on your phone are governed by The Google Play store and the Apple store. If your app is not updating, uninstall the app and install it again.

How do I add a note to my daily log?

Add a note by doing the following:

  • Tap “previous logs” in lower left corner of the app
  • Select the day you wish to edit
  • Tap the “+” icon in the lower right corner
  • You can now add a note to the event

Be sure to tap “Save” to retain the content of your note.

Is the Stoneridge EZ-Eld compatible with OBD-II?

The Stoneridge EZ-ELD is compatible with the OBD-II port, as well as the 6-pin and 9-pin port.

Stoneridge EZ-ELD Performance Factors

The simplicity of the Stoneridge EZ-ELD is its greatest asset. The plug-and-play installation ensures that the device is ready to go as quickly as possible. By providing service for unlimited drivers your fleet will always be fully equipped.

Drivers that are already accustomed to using mobile apps will have no trouble adjusting to the device. However, Stoneridge also offers free setup and training, if needed.

How Has the Stoneridge EZ-ELD Improved?

The recent ELD mandate has prompted many companies to develop affordable fleet solutions in rapid fashion, and Stoneridge is no different.

Most of the improvements have related to the integration of the device and the user-interface apps. We can imagine that there will be continued updates to these apps now that ELDs have become commonplace for the trucking industry.

Bought this product as I figured it was better than doing a logbook. After multiple attempts to get it connected to truck what a hassle. I thought it was good to go. I installed it in my driveway, truck didn’t move an inch. Shows I was running for over 14 hours driving. I tried to correct it in the app and the back office suite. cannot get it corrected, when I call their tech support, I get a call center with a static filled line, and kids yelling in the background.
