Operating port

A port in which the port authority builds the wharves, owns all of the equipment including cranes, and hires a workforce to transfer cargo. A stevedore hires longshoremen to use the equipment to transfer cargo between the ship and the dock. The port's workforce is then used to bring the cargo to the storage site. Examples of an operating port include the the Port of Savannah, the Port of Charleston, and the Port of Boston.
