International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA)

An agreement created to simplify fuel tax reporting by motor carriers operating in more than one jurisdiction of the contiguous U.S. and participating Canadian provinces. It requires carriers to file a quarterly report containing actual miles driven and gallons purchased in each state or province to determine if sufficient fuel taxes were paid at the point of purchase.
