Short ton

A reference to a unit of weight equaling 2,000 pounds within the imperial system of measurement, as opposed to a metric ton, which is a 2,000 kilogram unit called a "long ton" that's equivalent to 2,240 imperial pounds. Used to weigh lifting capacity and cargo, a short ton is often simply called a "ton" or "common ton" in the U.S.
