Hopper car

A railcar with a sloping floor so goods can fall through sliding doors underneath. Hopper cars can be covered, meaning they have a roof, or open, meaning the railcar has no roof. Hopper cars are used to transport bulk commodities, such as grain, frac sand or plastic pellets. Uncovered (open) hoppers typically carry coal.
