Also called a "hub," a gateway refers to a major metropolitan airport that serves as the point of entry or departure from different regions or even countries. Atlanta and Chicago are good examples of U.S. metropolitan areas with airports where many forwarders and brokers consolidate their cargo for shipping to other regions of the U.S. or internationally.
